The Education Department has confirmed that a full-scale investigation is set to get underway following claims that several pupils in a Northern Cape school have been impregnated by their teachers.
As many as 30 pupils at the Bothithong High School in Kuruman have fallen pregnant in the past three years, allegedly due to specific teachers employed there. However, the department says that it is only aware of 16 cases.
It says teachers who are implicated will be placed on suspension immediately while the probe is underway.
Spokesperson Geoffrey van der Merwe says: “We can assure the public that no stone will be left unturned during our investigations. And all due disciplinary processes will be followed pending the outcome of the investigation.”
