Four men have been arrested for the 9 October murder of a Booysens
police constable, police said on Friday.
Spokesperson Inspector Lorraine van Emmerik said the men were
arrested in Soweto on Thursday night.
"Together with officers from the serious and violent crime task
team, the Booysens trio task team, and Alberton police, our officers
identified the four suspects around 4pm on Thursday and pounced on them
at 23.45 in various houses in Zola and Braamfisherville," Van Emmerik
said.
Constable Tyani Khosa was found stabbed in the head with his hands
and feet tied together near a mine dump on Booysens Road last Thursday.
He was murdered just two days before marrying his pregnant fiancee
in a traditional ceremony.
"Officers received a call to say that a police officer has been
murdered and upon their arrival at the scene, they were shocked to find
their colleague's body," Van Emmerik said.
When arresting the men on Thursday night, police confiscated a large
sum of money and clothes they believe the men were wearing when
attacking Khosa.
Police were still searching for a weapon used to kill Khoza and a
service pistol that went missing when he was murdered.
Khoza, who had been with the SA Police Service since 2002, will be
buried in Limpopo on Saturday.
"His colleagues describe him as a very loyal, dedicated policeman
who was always ready to help his colleagues and the public whenever
necessary.
"The station management would like to pass their condolences on to
his family and friends," Van Emmerik said.
Khoza's alleged assailants, aged between 40 and 45, are expected to
appear in the Booysens Magistrate's Court on Monday. They will be
facing charges of murder.
