Pre-trial proceedings are expected to get underway for murder accused Sandile Mantsoe on Friday morning.
Mantsoe is accused of killing his girlfriend Karabo Mokoena, burning her body and dumping it at a Lyndhurst field.
The married father of three, however, claims that Mokoena committed suicide.
Mantsoe will appear in the South Gauteng High Court this morning, as his trial gets underway.
At least 20 witnesses are expected to testify in the State's case against Mantsoe.
The court is in possession of Mantsoe's affidavit in which he refutes the version of events given by the investigating officer.
The officer told the court that Mantsoe gave a statement saying that he had conducted rituals with Mokoena, including the miximg of their blood and getting matching crucifix tatoos, to aid his forex business.
However, Mantsoe claims that Mokoena abused him, was jealous and suicidal.
Mantsoe has been charged with assault, murder and defeating the ends of justice.
