ANC presidential hopeful Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma is set to be sworn in as a member of Parliament at 12:30.
She will be replacing former ANC MP Pule Mabe who resigned earlier this month.
Dlamini-Zuma is expected to be sworn in by the deputy speaker of the National Assembly Lechesa Tsenoli.
Spokesperson for the ANC caucus, Nonceba Mhlauli, has confirmed that the ceremony will take place in the deputy speaker’s office at 12:30.
Dlamini-Zuma’s return to Parliament has sparked speculation that President Jacob Zuma will reshuffle his Cabinet to put her in charge of a portfolio.
In any event, Dlamini-Zuma, who is currently unemployed since her single term as African Union chairperson ended, will benefit from an MP’s salary of more than R1 million a year.
She replaces ANC national executive committee member Mabe, who indicated at the time of his resignation that he wanted to pursue personal interests.
