The victims of the so-called Alexandra balaclava rapists have expressed their relief following the sentencing of one of the perpetrators at the South Gauteng Court on Tuesday.
Josais Mkansi was sentenced to 14 life sentences and an additional 50 years in jail for what Judge Ingrid Opperman described as the behaviour of a “serial sexual predator who made life hell for others”.
The NGO Women and Men Against Child Abuse says it has been following this case and counselling its victims for almost 10 years.
Spokesperson Miranda Jordan-Friedmann explained that one of the victims listening to the sentencing in court was 15 when the ordeal occurred.
Mkansi's name has been added to the national register for sex offenders and his sentencing has no prospect of parole.
