The registration process for the Democratic Alliance’s (DA) Western Cape elective congress is underway.
The two candidates for top post are former Police Commissioner Lennit Max and interim leader Bonginkosi Madikizela after mayoral committee member Anda Ntsodo withdrew.
Members have gathered at a venue in Goodwood, outside Cape Town, for the congress scheduled to run until 4pm on Saturday afternoon.
The Every Nation Christ Church in Goodwood is a hive of activity with delegates arriving and supporters still erecting stands promoting their preferred candidates.
The party’s provincial elective congress comes as Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille and Mayco member JP Smith are embroiled in a public spat.
There are allegations of irregular expenditure at de Lille’s private home.
But some delegates say today’s congress will embolden the party’s support in the Western Cape.
