A protest is underway at the Lanseria International Airport on Monday morning with demonstrators blocking the main entrance with burning tyres.
It’s unclear at this stage what the protest is about, but police and metro police are monitoring the scene.
The airport says that it has opened its southern entrance on Sandton Road, which is not usually open to the public.
Airport management's Gavin Sayce says protesters have now dispersed.
“There’s construction at the new parkade and I think there was some expectations from the community that they would get jobs.”
So far, no flights have been delayed.
Officials remain on scene.
