A 24-year-old man was arrested on charges of perjury and armed robbery after a car allegedly used during a robbery, and reported stolen by him, was found in his possession in Soweto near Johannesburg, Gauteng police said on Saturday.
Inspector Kay Makhubela said the man was arrested on Friday night at his home in Protea.
The registration number of a car used by robbers to flee the scene following a house robbery in Vereeniging a week ago was noted by the owner of the house.
The registration number and a description of the car was then given to police.
The 24-year-old man went to police to report his car stolen in Soweto soon after the robbery.
Police found the car with the same registration number as given by the house owner in Vereeniging in the man's possession at his house in Protea on Friday and arrested him for perjury and armed robbery.
The man would appear before the Protea Magistrate's Court on Monday.
He would then be taken to Vereeniging where more charges will be laid against him, said Makhubela.
