Homes in Scarbourough are under threat as a wildfire advances on the false bay area placing at risk other coastal zones.
The fire started in the Klawer Valley on Tuesday night.
Local authorities and members of the neighbourhood watch are doing the rounds in the neighbourhood, putting people on standby in case an evacuation is needed.
This resident explains the situation: “The fire is about 50 metres away from the nature reserve in Scarbourough. The first houses are close to it. Fire engines are moving in. Everybody's on standby. We’re starting to evacuate that part of the village.”
Meanwhile, several Gordon’s Bay residents are counting the costs after their homes were destroyed in wildfires.
The blaze gutted at least four houses. Much of the area was also without power after two substations were damaged.
