Gauteng Health MEC Gwen Ramokgopa says the department is focused on strengthening specialist services by making them more accessible to communities.
This comes after the opening of a new cataract theatre at the Lenasia south community health centre yesterday.
Ramokgopa says the purpose of the facility is to assist in a backlog of cataract surgeries in the province.
She says other outreach programmes are in the works to reduce the congestion for specialist needs.
“We will also be strengthening services in Pretoria to help with the load.”
