The Ministry of Health should "move swiftly" to fill staff vacancies and improve conditions of service in KwaZulu-Natal, the Democratic Alliance said on Saturday.

Spokesperson Peter Davies said the party's provincial congress in Pietermaritzburg noted that the province had the highest incidents of HIV/Aids as well as a poor health care system.

"There are many health facilities with a significant number of staff vacancies for doctors and nurses which can mean the difference between life and death," he said.

Davies said the Minister Barbara Hogan was in a position to make "appropriate responses needed to turn the tide on the Aids pandemic."
