Four illegal miners have been killed and 15 others arrested after a shootout with police in Boksburg, east of Johannesburg.
Police found the men, believed to be Lesotho nationals, in an open field near a mine on Thursday morning.
The police's Lungelo Dlamini says four illegal firearms and ammunition have been confiscated.
“They will be charged with attempted murder, illegal possession of unlicensed firearm and illegal immigration because we believe they are Lesotho nationals.
"We were searching for illegal firearms and we found that there are also two illegal miners that were hiding in the stream and we believe that there were firearms that were also thrown into the stream.”
