Newly elected Eskom board member and Wits Business School Professor, Rod Crompton has said he maintains the utmost confidence in his peers.
Crompton is one of 13 new board members announced on Saturday, with Jabu Mabuza at the helm, and boasts a substantial experience in the energy sector already.
The parastatal faces a series of governance and financial issues which have placed Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown under severe scrutiny.
With ongoing State Capture investigations which are slowly, but surely, toppling former board and executive members, the attention on the new batch will be felt.
Crompton, who stated he already knows many of his peers, is confident that the team will be able to deal with the challenges.
“I certainly have confidence in the board. I think they’re all experienced and distinguished people who will bring a lot to the board. That part I’m comfortable with. The other part is what is the detailed situation of Eskom currently. It sounds like a tough task and a long uphill climb.”
Currently, Anoj Singh has received great criticism for seemingly forgetting details surrounding major Eskom deals for which he and others are being investigated.
