Police have confirmed that three people were arrested on Wednesday morning during raids of various properties, which included the Gupta’s Saxonworld residence in Johannesburg.
Although Hawks spokesperson Hangwani Mulaudzi would not immediately reveal names, reports say the group includes at least one Gupta brother and a business associate linked to the family.
The Gupta family have been implicated in a string of allegations including accusations of money laundering and fraud.
Last year it was revealed in #GuptaLeaks reports that an estimated R30 million was paid to the Gupta family via a Free State dairy farm. The money, which was intended for the Estina Dairy Farm Project and was meant to assist impoverished farmers, was instead used to fund an extravagant Gupta family Sun City wedding back in 2013.
Reports stated that the Gupta’s Oakbay holding company’s offices and a Bedfordview residence thought to belong to the former MD of Sahara Systems were also raided on Wednesday morning.
The raids that took place Wednesday morning have been linked to the Estina dairy farm project and state capture investigations.
According to Eyewitness News, the Hawks are moving across the province to arrest more people linked to the investigations.
The raids at Saxonworld started early this morning but reports say the Hawks and SAPS have since left the premises.
