The ANCYL on Sunday came out against the call for the re-introduction of corporal punishment as it's "reminiscent of apartheid".
This comes after FF Plus Youth League recently announced its intentions to submit a memorandum to President Kgalema Motlanthe calling for the re-introduction of corporal punishment because of statements made by the ANCYL.
"The Youth League does not think that corporal punishment should be brought back," said league spokesperson Floyd Shivambu. "There are a variety of corrective means to discipline people who are out of the way."
Shivambu said corporal punishment was an integral part of apartheid repression, racism ad odd belief that violence and force could shape people's behavioural patterns.
He said the Youth League would never encourage or engage in violence for whatever reason as the FF Plus Youth had previously stated.
"We honestly don't understand why particularly the Afrikaner youth refuse to accept that the ANCYL is non-violent and against all forms of violence," said Shivambu.
He criticised the FF Plus Youth for taking the media route to engage without the Youth League.
"It's a populist stance to attract media attention," said Shivambu.
