Employees of Johannesburg Water embarked on an industrial action on Friday and management was engaging them to find a solution, the utility said.
Spokesperson Tebatso Matsimela said the managing director and other managers had arranged an urgent meeting with the employees and were giving the matter their full attention. "Johannesburg Water is committed to resolving these problems as speedily as possible in order to avoid the disruption of service delivery," Matsimela said. If the action was not resolved then services could be affected. "There is a danger that, if reason does not prevail, customer service and service delivery would be compromised." The utility said it had contacted contractors to deal with urgent issues such as burst pipes and other emergency service delivery. "At the completion of this meeting a consideration will be made to share the information with all stakeholders concerned including the media," Matsimela said. SA Municipal Workers Union spokesperson Dumisane Langa said he was not aware of the action.
