Having convicted five men so far in the Jeppestown massacre trial over two days, Johannesburg High Court Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng is expected to start judgment against Lelexolo Sihle Mdunge on Wednesday morning.
If found guilty, Mdunge will be convicted on twelve charges of murder, including the killing of eight suspected robbers who were embroiled in the bloody 2006 shootout with police in Jeppestown.
As did the other accused, he pleaded not guilty to these charges, as well as charges of attempted murder, aggravated robbery and possession of firearms and ammunition.
Judge Mokgoatlheng said he would only convict the men on possession of firearm and ammunition charges once he had convicted all of them for other charges.
On Tuesday, he found Sizwe Mbuyazi, Khumbulani Mabaso and Sizwe Dlamini "guilty as charged". Nkosinathi Mzamo Mchunu was convicted on similar charges on Monday, while Senzo Emmanuel Mweli was convicted on charges of aggravated robbery and attempted murder.
Mokgoatlheng had earlier convicted him on all charges, including murder but later retracted the conviction, saying Mweli was never charged with murder.
His lover, Dineo Mary Maleke, was acquitted on all charges.
