A nurse died on Wednesday morning when a provincial ambulance overturned between Paterson and Port Elizabeth, the Eastern Cape health department said.

Spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo said a patient and the driver were rushed to hospital with injuries.

MEC Pemmy Majodina had expressed condolences to the nurse's family.

Earlier this month, three patients were killed when a provincial patient transport vehicle taking then from Cradock to Port Elizabeth overturned.
