Former president Thabo Mbeki's office has written to the ANC saying he has no objection to the ruling party releasing the letter he wrote to ANC president Jacob Zuma, SABC radio news reported on Wednesday.

Mbeki is believed to have said that given the selective nature of the disclosure he would have no objection to the letter being released to the public in its entirety.

In the letter, Mbeki is said to have distanced himself from the splinter group breaking away from the ANC in order to form a new political party.

Mbeki has also apparently questioned the ANC's announcement that he will be roped in to campaign for the party during the election, despite having earlier said it had lost confidence in him.

Earlier, ANC spokesperson Jessie Duarte said Mbeki's letter to the party would not be released, SABC reported.
