Seventeen people were injured in a collision between a truck and a minibus taxi in Midrand on Monday, paramedics said.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Nick Dollman said the incident occurred on the Old Pretoria Main Road .

"It is alleged that the minibus taxi went off the road before colliding with the truck that was waiting at a side junction," he said.

A female passenger who was sitting in the front of the taxi sustained a head injury, while another woman was in a critical condition.

A further 15 people sustained minor to serious injuries.
