More than fifty people have been hospitalised at Marikana near Rustenburg in North-West following a fierce storm that hit the area on Tuesday afternoon, SABC radio news reported.

The storm blew off the roofs of close to three hundred low cost houses and shacks.

The local council organised buses to ferry those left homeless to a community hall.

Blankets and food parcels were also being distributed, SABC reported.
