It would be "unlawful and malicious" for the Scorpions to arrest former Fidentia boss Arthur Brown again, his lawyer has warned the unit.

Attorney Rashad Khan issued the warning in a letter this week to Scorpions head Adrian Mopp, in which he demanded that all the charges against Brown be consolidated in a single court case.

He also demanded that the Scorpions give a cut-off date for their investigations into Brown.

In the letter Kahn referred to a planned Carte Blanche television programme on Brown and the Fidentia affair.

He said he had been informed that a Scorpions prosecutor, Thersia du Toit, had told a Carte Blanche representative that the unit was planning to rearrest Brown on further charges.

"If the allegations are correct, as conveyed by Carte Blanche, we view this as a threat against our client," Khan said.

"This is not only unlawful and malicious but an abuse of authority based purely for an ulterior purpose.

"We accordingly demand to know the nature of the alleged charges and when you intend arresting Mr Brown."

National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Tlali Tlali said on Thursday the NPA did not comment on investigations "unless exceptional circumstances and/or compelling reasons exist".
