Two Pakistani men are to appear in the Durban Magistrate's Court for possession of heroin with a street value of R1.8-million, the National Prosecuting Authority said on Thursday.
Spokesperson Tlali Tlali said the two were arrested on 24 October in Gauteng and Kwazulu-Natal, and would appear in court on Friday.
The arrests followed an intensive investigation by the Scorpions drugs team into drug manufacturing and distribution in South Africa, mainly in Kwazulu-Natal, Gauteng and the Western Cape.
Police seized 1.5 kilograms of heroin, worth about R1.8 million.
"Commonly referred to as 'sugars' especially in Kwazulu-Natal, the drug is sold in minute quantities and is highly addictive," Tlali said.
This was the biggest single seizure of this drug type in Kwazulu-Natal.
"Leads show that the operations of the syndicate involved are across the country and that there are other symptoms of investigative nature indicating international networks."
"Consequently, the Scorpions are very confident that more arrests will be effected soon," Tlali said.
