A 53-year-old man was arrested on Friday for allegedly raping his teenage step-daughter at Soshanguve, Gauteng police said.

Spokesperson Solly Marindi said the man was at home alone with the 14-year-old on Tuesday night.

"The mother was working night shift. The man called the girl into the main bedroom around 10pm; he asked her to come and see what he had."

Marindi said the when the girl walked in, he had a condom in his hands.

"He allegedly took it out and raped her."

Marindi said the man forgot the used condom on top of a washing machine in the bedroom.

The mother found the condom on Wednesday morning and asked the girl about it.

She said she had been raped.

"We arrested the stepfather today — he said the girl came with a condom into the bedroom," police said.

The man would appear in the Soshanguve Magistrate's Court soon, police added.
