At least 18 bullets were fired at the house of a southern Gauteng ANC official in the early hours of Friday, police confirmed.
Earlier Gauteng ANC spokesperson Nkenke Kekana said somebody fired shots at Sedibeng regional secretary Bernard Mosedi's bedroom at his home in Small Farms. Police spokesperson Superintendent Thembeka Koago said 18 shots were fired by an unknown attacker at about 12.20am on Friday. She said that his mother, niece and grandchildren were also in the house at the time of the shooting but nobody was physically hurt. Police investigating an attempted murder case have no information yet on the motive for the attack, said Koago. "It is of concern to us as the ANC that one of our regional leaders was attacked," said Kekana. The party would work with the police to help them find the attackers. Kekana said he could not speculate on whether the attack was politically motivated but at the same time said: "We are calling on our members to remain vigilant and disciplined and allow the police to do their work."
