Seven minor road accidents happened in and around Johannesburg on Tuesday morning as a result of the rainy weather, the metro police said.

"There has already been seven small accidents but with no serious injuries or casualties," said Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

Many of these accidents were bumper to bumper crashes, he added.

"It is raining over many parts of Johannesburg this morning and motorists need to reduce speed, keep headlights switched on and maintain a safe following distance," he cautioned.

"We need to warn motorists to be careful."
