The African National Congress in Mpumalanga planned to set up a
trust fund for the victims of the Bushbuckridge accident that claimed
25 lives on Wednesday, they said in a statement on Saturday.
"The ANC calls upon South Africans to join the ANC to help the
bereaved families to raise funds through the Trust Fund to assist in
the burial of the deceased," said party spokesperson Carl Niehaus.
He said this following a visit by party president Jacob Zuma to the
Mpumalanga hospital, where the six survivors of Wednesday's two truck
collision accident are being treated.
"The president extended condolences to the families of the
deceased... and wished them well and that they should recover soon
because prayers of millions of South Africans across the country are
with them during this challenging time," Niehaus said.
He could however not give details of the trust fund, saying
information will be provided at a later stage.
The six people were
rushed to hospital together with two other
people when a KFC truck lost control and collided with a smaller truck
transporting workers to a nearby plantation on the R40 in Bushbuckridge
on Wednesday.
Two of the injured people died later in hospital, bringing to 25 the
number of people killed in that accident.
