Two Johannesburg traffic officials have been suspended for alleged corruption involving driving licence tests, a city official said on Tuesday.
Community safety spokesperson Mandla Radebe said the two learner and driver contact centre officials were suspended on Monday for allegedly extorting money from driving school owners in exchange for licence testing slots. "The arrests follow a tip off which is a result of the Whistle Blower's campaign launched in September 2008," he said. Fraud and corruption investigations against the two officials were still underway. "If found guilty, criminal charges will be laid against all those implicated in the scam." He urged people with information about fraud involving learner and drivers licence bookings to contact the hotline on 0800-212-672.
