A man's legs were crushed by a frontend loader which he and two accomplices hijacked in Marlboro on Monday, Johannesburg said.

Inspector Moses Maphakela said the vehicle fell on top of the 29-year-old man while they were trying to shake concrete off the loader.

"His accomplices managed to remove him from under the vehicle, which they abandoned after the accident," said Maphakela.

However, the three men were caught heading to Tembisa hospital by patrolling police in Bramley.

"They confessed to the incident and showed us where they left the vehicle after they were questioned about the injured man's legs," he said.

Police confiscated a toy gun believed to have been used during the hijacking, Maphakela said

The injured man was taken to a nearby hospital.

The other two men, aged between 34 and 36, were charged with hijacking were expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate's Court.
