A minibus taxi with 16 people on board hit a pedestrian and overturned in Leondale, Germiston, on Wednesday, said Ekurhuleni metro police.

A man, in his 40s, was retrieving his hat from the road after it was blown off by the wind, when he was hit by the taxi, said Ekurhuleni metro police spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng.

The 29-year-old taxi driver lost control of the vehicle and it rolled.

All 15 passengers were injured and taken to the Natalspruit hospital — as was the pedestrian.
