Uriel Abrahamse (47), who is accused of killing four-year-old Gwadiso Richard Belang Junior, appeared in the Newlands Magistrate's Court, on Friday, Talk Radio 702 reported.

The case was postponed for further investigation, but no date was immediately given.

This was reportedly the first time that Gwadiso Richard Belang Senior had sat in the same room as the man accused of killing his son and he said that he was overcome with mixed emotions.

His son was shot in October at the Sunbeam playground and creche, situated at the intersection of Park Lane and Fifth Avenue.

This happened after Abrahamse's son had been walking past a park next to the creche when he was robbed of his cellphone.

He then ran home and told his father, who took his licensed firearm and went to look for the thief.

He spotted the thief and fired shots at him, but instead hit the child in his upper body. He died on the spot.
