A 53-year-old man died after his bakkie overturned in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni metro police said on Saturday.

Inspector Jimmy Maboko said the man was travelling on Campbell road in the suburb of Cason just before 6.00pm when he took a turn at an intersection.

"He lost control of the car. It overturned. In the process of overturning he was thrown out of the car."

Maboko said the man was certified dead by Ekurhuleni paramedics.

He said a case of culpable homicide would be registered with the Boksburg police who would investigate the cause of the accident.

Maboko said it was not clear what caused the accident but the element of speed was probably involved for the car to have overturn with such impact that the driver was killed.

"Metro police advise motorists to keep to the prescribed speed limit at all times," he said.
