Armed robbers got away with about R200 000 during a cash-in-transit heist near Nelspruit in Mpumalanga, police said on Tuesday.

Five armed men in an Opel Corsa overtook an unmarked cash van between Kabokweni and Nelspruit on Monday afternoon and forced it to stop, said Superintendent Malcolm Mokomene.

The two security guards were assaulted before the armed robbers fled with bags of money.

No arrests had been made.
