The ANC on Wednesday sent condolences to the family of former SA National Defence Force general Peter Lesego Tshikane who is to be buried on Saturday.

"We send condolence to his family, friends and relatives. He was a truly committed cadre of our movement, who sacrificed comforts of life so that a democratic South Africa could be realised," the African National Congress said in a statement.

Major General Tshikane died at the age of 75 on Friday last week, after a short illness at his Walkerville home.

He was a former Umkhonto we Sizwe commander. He joined in 1963 shortly after the formation of the ANC's liberation army.

Tshikare will be buried at the Jakobskop Cemetery on Saturday, after a service at 416 Versveld Road, Walkers Fruit Farm in Walkerville.

The service will start at 9:30am and the cortege leaves for the graveyard at 1pm.
