Five men armed with pistols robbed a branch of Absa in Brooklyn, Pretoria, on Thursday, said Gauteng police.
"They produced and pointed firearms at all the tellers and told them to put all the money in a bag," said Inspector Job Mashiane. The robbers entered the bank on Lynnwood Road about 10.15am and stood in line with the customers. It was only when they reached the front of the line that they drew their weapons. According to Mashiane, all five were armed with pistols. The staff were ordered from the back into the front of the bank. After the tellers' drawers were emptied, the robbers forced one of the staff members to open the main entrance. The five then escaped in a white bakkie with an undisclosed amount of money. Police were searching for the men and the bakkie. No shots were fired during the robbery and no one was injured.
