Five robbers raided the Johannesburg offices of the SA Football Association, seriously injuring a staff member, Safa said on Thursday.
Wellington Ngcobo, a member of Safa's competitions department, was attacked and roughed up by the gang on Wednesday night. They demanded information about valuables in the offices and robbed him of his personal belongings, said Safa's spokesperson Morio Sanyane. "He has been booked off work." A number of computers and other valuable office equipment were stolen. The gang, dressed in uniforms similar to those of security guards, held up the unarmed security guards at the complex's gates. Safa CEO Raymond Hack said: "We greatly condemn this act of thuggery and believe that the criminals will be apprehended by the law enforcement agencies. "It was a vicious attack on the only member of our staff present at the time (8pm) and a traumatic experience, in addition to the beating he received." Hack said video surveillance cameras recorded the event and were in the hands of police.
