Two trucks were hijacked in separate incidents by men wearing police uniform, Mpumalanga police said on Thursday.
Around 8pm on Tuesday, a truck carrying a cargo worth an estimated R3.5-million was hijacked by four men dressed as police officers.
The armed men were driving a Corsa bakkie with a blue light fixed on top of the vehicle's roof and stopped the truck at Delmas, said Superintendent Abie Khoabane.
"After they stopped the truck they accused the driver of jumping a stop sign. Then three of them pointed guns at him and dragged him into the back of the truck," said Khoabane.
The men drove with the driver for about 5 km and then dropped him off in the veld.
In another incident, a truck carrying cargo worth an estimated R270 000 was hijacked by two men in police uniform at Balfour on Tuesday.
The truck driver was stopped on the Vereeniging road around 2am by two men driving a Citi Golf with a blue light on top of the car's roof, said Khoabane
"When the truck driver stopped two men wearing police uniform pointed guns at him and took him to their car," said Khoabane.
The men drove off with the truck and they dropped the driver in nearby veld.
Police were investigating cases of hijacking, said Khoabane.
