A 38-year-old driver of a ditcher that ploughed into a house and killed a teenager in Uitenhage has been handed over to police by his employer, police said on Tuesday.

Inspector Gerda Swart said a construction company owner accompanied the driver to the Kamesh Police Station on Tuesday.

The driver was driving along Falkon Street when he drove through a fence into a house on Sunday.

The wall of the house fell on the people who were sleeping inside and killed 16-year-old Sharmonique Sana.

The other people were treated for various injuries. The driver has been charged with culpable homicide.

He will appear in the Uitenhage Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
