Transport Minister Jeff Radebe will hold an urgent meeting with the leadership of the taxi industry on Wednesday following a halted national summit last week.
In a statement on Tuesday the ministry of transport said Radebe — who was unable to attend the summit last week — would meet with representatives from the taxi industry to discuss resolutions it had taken.
The meeting — which would be closed to the media — would take place in Pretoria around 10am.
"Following this urgent meeting, the national department of transport will also convene a taxi summit on Friday, 12 December, in Johannesburg."
The venue would be confirmed in due course.
Last week the summit was concluded early after the transport department decided to step aside and let the industry continue its consultations.
Director general Mpumi Mpofu said at the time that discussions had been inadequate between government at a city level, and between the taxi industry leaders and their members.
This was regarding the Rapid Bus Transit system (BRT).
Industry members also halted formal proceedings because they said they had not been consulted about the BRT and that they simply did not want it.
