Thirteen people were seriously injured on Wednesday when a Putco bus collided with a minibus taxi in Zandspruit, Johannesburg Emergency Services said.

"It seems like the bus was travelling at a very high speed, and then hit the taxi from behind on Juice Road," spokesperson Percy Morokane said.

"The taxi was then pushed by the bus for 150 metres, before stopping."

He said that the rear end of the taxi was completely sheared off.

One person was critically injured, and was airlifted to hospital.

"The bus driver will be charged with reckless and negligent driving," Morokane said.

Traffic was severely affected from Beyers Naude Drive to Juice Road.
