Six people burnt to death in a taxi accident on the N2 in Durban on Saturday, paramedics said.

ER24 spokesman Derrick Banks said the accident occurred on the N2 south bound near Nandi Drive.

Banks said the six include a little child.

He said it was not clear what caused the accident.

Earlier, six people were killed when the driver of a minibus taxi lost control of his vehicle near Izingolweni.

Kwazulu-Natal transport spokeswoman Nonkululeko Mbatha said that the taxi was on its way from Izingolweni to nearby Port Shepstone when it crashed — killing six women and injuring another nine passengers.

Mbatha said, that the driver fled the accident scene and that the nine passengers were in a serious condition.
