Veteran anti-apartheid activist Helen Suzman will be buried on Sunday, her daughter Frances Jowell said on Friday.

Jowell said that Chief Rabbi Warren Goldstein would lead the funeral service at the West Park cemetery's Jewish section.

"A public memorial will be held in a few week's time," Jowell said.

Suzman died peacefully on Thursday morning at the age of 91 at her home in Johannesburg.

The longest serving member of South Africa's white parliament, Suzman retired in May 1989 after fighting against apartheid for 36 years.

She was twice nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

On Sunday, the national flag will be flown at half-mast in tribute to Suzman, SA President Kgalema Motlanthe said.
