The road show of South Africa's Paralympic heroes continues, and yesterday they met former President Nelson Mandela, accompanied by Olympic long jump silver medalist, Khotso Mokoena, according to SABC news.
Madiba met all the medalists at the Nelson Mandela Foundation in Houghton in northern Johannesburg.
South Africa bagged 30 medals, including 21 gold, 3 silver and 6 bronze.
He congratulated all the gold, silver and bronze winners at this year's games, including Natalie du Toit and Oscar Pistorius.
Oscar Pistorius, the three times gold medallist, said: "When he came into the room everybody was silent, in awe of this amazing man. Just being able to kneel down next to him and shake his hand … it's not something you experience everyday. And the smile on my face is going to be here at least for the next few hours."
The celebrated Paralympians will continue their visits to the various companies which sponsored the team, said the SABC.
