Three people were arrested after approximately R200 000 worth of stolen car parts were found in Croydon and Newlands in Johannesburg on Saturday, police said.
Police's flying squad raided a house in Croydon near Edenvale after receiving a tip-off from the public around 1.50pm, said spokesperson Captain Julia Claassen. "Brand new car and truck parts, valued at R150 000, were found stashed inside the box with their serial numbers filed off." A 64 year-old man was arrested for possession of suspected stolen property. Investigations then also led police to a house in Newlands on the West Rand where about R50 000 worth of parts were also found. A 33 year-old woman and her 32-year-old fiance were arrested shortly after the raid. Head of an anonymous crime tip-off line, Yusuf Ambramjee said the couple claimed they were transporting the goods from Cape Town to Johannesburg. Claassen said those arrested would be charged with possession of stolen property. The couple have also been charged with using a vehicle without the owner's consent as police recovered a Toyoto Corolla on the scene which did not belong to the couple.Sapa
