The Blue Bulls' wing John Mametsa's case was postponed till 5 December after he was involved in an incident with the police on Saturday night in Hatfield.
Mametsa briefly appeared in court on Monday morning but he will now
focus all his attention on Saturday's Absa Currie Cup final against the
Sharks in Durban after his legal team requested that the case must be
postponed.
According to a Blue Bulls media statement, the incident was a very traumatic experience for Mametsa, but he has put it behind him for the meantime and will henceforth start concentrating on the final.
Mametsa is not going to comment on the matter because it can harm
his case, said the statement.
Lucky escape
In an unrelated incident, former Springbok great Danie Gerber (50), was nearly attacked by five armed men at the weekend.
A report in Afrikaans daily Die Burger, said Gerber — one of South Africa's greatest-ever players — and his wife
were walking their dogs at the Bluewater Bay beach, in Port Elizabeth, when confronted by a gang.
Gerber, however, made a dash for it, and outran his assailants. Die Burger report said they gave up after chasing the former Bok player 30 metres.
