A visit to Orange Farm and a later convention in Tshwane by a group of disgruntled ANC members who may launch a new opposition party is not a reason for concern, the ANC in Gauteng said on Thursday.
"The ANC is not concern[ed] about the planned activities of the party of dissidents planned in Gauteng," said spokesperson Nkenke Kekana.
The party's former chairperson Terror Lekota was suspended for criticising the party in public, and is currently lobbying support for a national convention to gauge opinion on a range of matters including whether an opposition party could be formed.
Former Gauteng premier Mbhazima Shilowa, axed Congress of SA Trade Unions president Willie Madisha and former defence deputy Mluleki George are among those behind the convention.
The ANC called on all political parties to conduct next year's elections "with dignity and tolerance" and help the Independent Electoral Commission create an environment of free and fair campaigning in the province.
"The ANC is not concern about the planned activities of the party of dissidents planned in Gauteng," it said.
Lekota is expected to address people at Orange Farm's Multi-Purpose Centre at noon on Thursday.
The convention is expected to be held in Tshwane on the first weekend of November.
