A man died after a brick wall collapsed on top of him in Houghton, Johannesburg, on Thursday, ER24 said.
Spokesperson Werner Vermaak said the man died minutes after he was found trapped under the collapsed wall of a partially demolished house around 3pm. "When paramedics arrived on the scene they were unable to remove him from underneath the wall. "While still trapped they assessed him and they found that the man had a penetrating trauma a to his head, chest and eyes," said Vermaak. The Fire Department was called and specialised equipment was used to remove him from underneath the wall. "After the man was removed paramedics realised that he was not breathing and had no pulse. "They tried to revive him for almost an hour but he was declared dead because of his injuries," said Vermaak. Paramedics found the man alone and were unable to identify his next of kin. "It is unclear if the man was part of a demolishing team," he said. Last week Thursday half of a partially built office block collapsed completely, killing two men and injuring 14 in Little Falls in Roodepoort, police spokesman Inspector Balan Muthan confirmed.
