The venue for the SA National Convention at the beginning of November is back in Bloemfontein, one of the organisers, Mosiuoa Lekota, said on Thursday.
"It will be held in Bloemfontein. We have booked the venue," Lekota said during a visit to Orange Farm, south of Johannesburg. "I confirm now for the last time the convention will be held on the 2nd of November." The first day presumably 1 November, a Saturday would be for delegates to register and the second would be for the "main business", which is expected to lead to the formation of a new opposition party by disgruntled ANC members. Bloemfontein had been the original venue, but on Wednesday organisers said it had moved to Pretoria. Meanwhile, comments were already flowing onto the convention's newly launched website. The site provided background to the event, including Lekota's comment that divorce papers had been served on the ANC by members unhappy about the way it had handled support for party president Jacob Zuma during his corruption investigation. Most of the people who left comments supported the convention. One however wrote that Lekota and former Gauteng premier Mbhazima Shilowa were trying to subvert democracy. Former deputy defence minister Mluleki George and former Congress of SA Trade Unions president Willie Madisha were among those who had thrown their weight behind the convention.
Got something to say?
