Two people were killed when their light training aircraft crashed near Poortjie in Orange Farm on Friday morning, the Civil Aviation Authority said.
Spokesperson Phindiwe Gwebu said the plane took off from Rand Airport around 9am and was expected to land at the same airport later during the day. "The pilot was making a U-turn when the plane started spinning out of control. We don't know if this was a training exercise and we also don't know what caused the accident," said Gwebu. The passenger was found 500 metres from the accident and the pilot was found inside the wreckage. Over the last three months 28 people were killed in four aircraft crashes.
