Three people were arrested shortly after they robbed a jewellery store in Meyerton south of Johannesburg on Saturday, Gauteng police said.

"Four armed men, and one woman entered the store at 10am this morning and ordered everyone in the store to lay still on the floor," said Constable Makgaute Serathi.

She said they then stole jewellery, and made off in a car.

"They sped off in their car, and then met with an accident...police in the area were alerted and gave chase as they got out of their vehicle."

He said three robbers were arrested including the woman.

The other two were still on the run.

The three would appear in the Meyerton Magistrates Court on Monday.
